What We Do

We have been helping underprivileged children in Sri Lanka by donating books, educational materials, clothes, toys etc at our personal capacity for an extended period of time. This year we asked our circle of close friends to donate unwanted books, clothes, toys etc to donate to these kids and we had an overwhelming response from everyone. So we have decided to take this project a step further and to get everyone involved in this meritorious deed of helping a child in need.

Previously we used to carry all these items in our checked luggage every time we go on holiday to Sri Lanka. However due to the positive responses, we now send a shipment box of donations over to Sri Lanka. Our main points of distribution are the surrounding villages in the Thissamaharama, Suriyawewa, Katharagama area for clothes. We normally hand education packs (exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, colour pencil packs etc) along with the clothes to these kids. The other current point of distribution is to a very rural school (Ilipangamuwa Kanishta Vidyalaya) which is in the middle of nowhere in surrounded by a rubber estate. The school has very limited resources but due to a courageous principal it has avoided its collapse. In a previous project in 2011 we managed to build and donate a library building along with books with the kind donations from the parents of the kids from my mother’s institution along with a lot more donors. Books handed over to us will be donated to the school library.

The project is to bring clothes, toys, books and other educational materials to the underprivileged children in Sri Lanka and give them a chance progress in life through reading and education. Our aim is to collect unwanted second hand or even new books, educational materials, children’s toys and children’s clothes and then donate them to underprivileged children in Sri Lanka.It is also our hope that through this simple initiative, we will find like-minded people who are ready, willing and able to contribute their time and efforts in helping us to the help these children.
